Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

During my work experience placement, I had the privilege of joining a costume team tasked with crafting dance costumes designed by Rhi Matthews. I eagerly anticipated this opportunity, fuelled by my deep passion for dancewear and a desire to further my skills in working with stretch fabrics. Throughout my time there, I was excited to expand my knowledge in this area, which I indeed accomplished.

Being part of the team involved problem-solving and collaboration on various aspects of construction, from translating the design into tangible garments to ensuring the perfect fit of the shorts and determining the attachment method for buttons and trim details. Working alongside Rhi was a truly enriching experience. Her active involvement in the making process, providing feedback and approving samples, enhanced my learning journey.

Witnessing the finished costumes showcased at the Edinburgh Tattoo festival, worn by the talented dancers, was incredibly gratifying. They looked absolutely stunning, reflecting the collective efforts of the team and reaffirming my passion for costume construction and dancewear design.
